Choose a Color Palette for Your Thanksgiving Table
One of the easiest ways to make your Thanksgiving table look put together is to stick with two or three colors. And trust me, you don’t have to overthink this!
I love pairing cream with warm orange for that classic fall look. Or, if you prefer something a little more neutral, try white, soft green, and natural brown.
Once you’ve picked your colors, repeat them throughout your table with napkins, flowers, pumpkins, or even candles. This way, everything feels like it belongs together without being too matchy-matchy!
If you’re not sure which colors to choose, here are a few of my favorite Thanksgiving table color combinations!
- Cream, Burnt Orange, and Brown: Perfect for that classic, cozy fall look! Think orange pumpkins, cream napkins, and natural wood accents.
- Sage Green, White, and Natural Wood: I love this combination for a softer, more neutral Thanksgiving table. Add some greenery, white dishes, and woven placemats.
- Burgundy, Blush, and Gold: Want something a little more elegant? Try burgundy napkins, soft pink flowers, and gold candleholders.
- Mustard Yellow, Rust, and Cream: Such a fun combination for fall! Mix mustard-colored napkins with rust-colored flowers and cream dishes.
- Olive Green, Copper, and Ivory: This combination feels warm and cozy without using traditional orange. Try olive green napkins, copper candleholders, and ivory pumpkins.
- Terracotta, Beige, and Soft Green: Perfect if you love earthy colors! Add terracotta-colored napkins, beige linens, and a few sprigs of eucalyptus.
Start With Dishes You Already Own
I know it might be tempting to go out and buy all brand new dishes, ecspecially if you are hosting a Thanksgiving dinner. But before you start shopping for anything new, take a look at what you already have! You might be surprised how pretty your everyday dishes can look with a few seasonal touches.
For instance try something as simple as an orange napkin can make white plates feel perfect for fall. And tying your silverware with a little twine? Such a cute and easy detail!
Try repeating one small detail at each place setting, whether it’s a pretty napkin, mini pumpkin, or little name tag. It’s an easy way to make your whole table feel pulled together!
Layer in Natural Texture
Ahhh, I love adding texture to a Thanksgiving table! It’s seriously a game changer when you want everything to feel extra cozy. Think woven placemats, pinecones, or even a little seasonal greenery.
And don’t be afraid to mix and layer those textures! I especially love pairing woven placemats with natural greenery for that warm, cozy fall look.
Make a Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece With Seasonal Produce
Pumpkins and gourds are always cute for Thanksgiving, but why stop there? I love the idea of using apples, pears, or even winter squash to bring those pretty autumn colors to the table!
For an easy centerpiece, try filling a shallow bowl or basket with seasonal fruits and veggies. Just be sure to keep it low enough so everyone can still chat across the table. After all, we need room for all that Thanksgiving food!
Add Candlelight and Small Flower Arrangements
I love the look of little flower arrangements scattered across a Thanksgiving table! You don’t need a huge bouquet to make your table look beautiful. In fact, a few small arrangements can be just as pretty, and they’re so easy to put together!
Use Small Vases or Glass Jars
Instead of buying multiple bouquets, grab one bunch of flowers and divide it between a few small vases or glass jars. I especially love choosing flowers that match the colors of my napkins or table runner. It makes everything look so pretty together!
Mix in a Few Candles
Once you’ve arranged your flowers, try adding a few taper candles between the vases. They add such a cozy glow, especially for Thanksgiving dinner! Just keep the flames away from flowers and greenery, or use flameless candles if you’d rather play it safe.
Give Each Place Setting a Personal Touch
One of my favorite things to do when setting the Thanksgiving table is to write a little note for each guest about why I’m thankful for them. I love the idea of everyone sitting down to find a sweet, personal message waiting at their place. It’s a fun way to make Thanksgiving dinner feel a little more meaningful!
Write a Little Thankful Note
You don’t need anything fancy! Just grab some pretty cardstock and write a short note for each guest. Then, place it on their plate or tuck it into their napkin for a sweet little surprise when they sit down.
Make Each Place Setting Feel Special
Once you have your notes ready, finish off each place setting with a pretty napkin, silverware, and maybe a little sprig of greenery. You can even tie everything together with twine for a cozy, rustic look!
Create a Cozy Outdoor Thanksgiving Table
If the weather is nice enough, why not take Thanksgiving dinner outside? I love the idea of gathering around a pretty outdoor table with cozy blankets, fall flowers, and a simple table runner. Plus, there’s something so fun about enjoying Thanksgiving surrounded by all those beautiful fall colors!
Just be sure to have a few extra blankets nearby in case it gets chilly. And since fall weather can be unpredictable, it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan indoors!
Leave Room for the Thanksgiving Food
Let’s not forget about the most important part of Thanksgiving… the food! As much as I love a beautifully decorated table, nobody wants to play Tetris trying to fit all the dishes.
Try keeping your centerpiece narrow so there’s plenty of room for serving bowls and plates. And if you’re working with a smaller table, don’t be afraid to set up a little buffet on your kitchen counter! That way, you can still have a pretty table without sacrificing space for all the good stuff.
Ready to Set Your Thanksgiving Table?
You don’t have to go all out to create a beautiful Thanksgiving table! Start with dishes you already own, add a few cozy textures or your favorite fall colors, and pick a centerpiece you love.
And if you have a little extra time, add something personal for your guests! At the end of the day, Thanksgiving is about good food, great company, and making memories with the people you love. So don’t stress about making everything perfect. Just have fun with it!
